Billie Eilish, known for her chart-topping hits and unique sound, recently opened up about her doubts surrounding one of her latest tracks, "Birds of a Feather." In a profile with The Los Angeles Times, Eilish revealed that she feared the song from her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft, wouldn't connect with her audience.
"I had moments of thinking, 'Oh, my God, 'Birds of a Feather' is our worst song,'" Eilish admitted. "I thought it was too poppy and that everyone was gonna hate it."
Despite her concerns, the song has become a massive success. Since its release in July, "Birds of a Feather" has reached the Top 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned more than 1.1 billion streams on Spotify. Critics have praised the song, with The Guardian highlighting its "beautiful melodies" and "distinctive lyrical touches." The track's music video, directed by Aidan Zamiri, has even earned a 2024 MTV Video Music Awards nomination for Song of the Summer.

Eilish noted the song's contrasting elements, with its upbeat instrumental paired with dark lyrics, such as "Till I rot away, dead and buried." She and her brother, Finneas O'Connell, played the song for their parents, who were surprised by its somber tone despite its joyful melody.

In the same profile, Eilish also reflected on the challenges of navigating her personal life in the public eye. She expressed regret over being open about her sexuality and relationships, telling Vogue she wishes people knew less about her personal life.
"I'm never talking about my sexuality or who I'm dating ever again," Eilish said.
