In a recent interview, Ben Affleck expressed high praise for Jennifer Lopez's role in the upcoming movie Unstoppable, even as the two navigate their ongoing divorce. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on November 3, Affleck referred to Lopez's performance as "spectacular," adding warmth to what might otherwise be a strictly professional exchange.
Affleck and his long-time friend Matt Damon were promoting Small Things Like These, a new project from their production company, Artists Equity. When the conversation shifted to Unstoppable, which Affleck and Damon produced, Affleck spoke with pride about the film, describing Lopez and the cast's work as truly remarkable. He mentioned that the film, like many of their projects, is driven by the passion of skilled artists. "Unstoppable is very different, but in a way, it's similarly rooted in the passion of really talented artists," Affleck noted. Alongside Lopez, the movie stars Don Cheadle, Jharrel Jerome, and Bobby Cannavale, with Billy Goldenberg directing.
The film, based on a true story, follows wrestler Anthony Robles (played by Jerome), who was born with one leg and achieved incredible success by winning the 2011 NCAA national championships. Lopez portrays Robles's mother, Judy, a role that has already garnered her critical acclaim and sparked early Oscar buzz.
In response to Affleck's compliment, Lopez kept things diplomatic. When asked about his words at the Unstoppable premiere in London, she expressed her appreciation with a joyful "thank you." She added her own praise for the cast and crew, calling them "spectacular and wonderful," though she refrained from mentioning Affleck directly.
The two stars, once known as "Bennifer," married in 2021 but separated earlier this year, with Lopez filing for divorce in August. Though the split hasn't led to any public disputes, Lopez recently shared her thoughts on personal growth following the breakup. In an interview with Interview Magazine, she said, "I need to go off and be on my own. I want to prove to myself that I can do that."
Despite their personal challenges, it appears that Affleck and Lopez continue to support each other's professional achievements, offering a respectful distance while sharing their mutual admiration for each other's work.
